Players of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are buzzing about the chance of a unexpected battle involving a corrupted version of Esquie. This speculation emerged after the studio revealed a complimentary major expansion filled with new enemies and surprises.
What Ignited the Speculation?
Recently shared concept art seems to depict a youthful protagonist riding Esquie advancing on a veiled enemy. This visual heavily implies that the gentle giant could play a key part in the upcoming content.
Compounding the suspense, voice actors including the performer behind the character have been recorded laying down fresh lines. Previously, he was shown as a kind-hearted presence who offered comfort and wine to expeditioners. However, clues suggested a hidden immense nature—even a line where Esquie stated, “Bad things occur we get mad.”
Fan Reactions and Online Clues
Across online forums, players are eagerly discussing the prospect of battling a evil Esquie. A user exclaimed, “It’s time for the ultimate super boss: Esquie.”
Additionally, the developer updated its profile picture to a sinister image of a shadowy figure bearing a striking resemblance to the companion. While this could be related to a seasonal celebration or community initiative, the crimson gaze and spiky collar make it difficult not to envision a threatening foe.

Deeper Lore Possibilities
A number of theorists propose that a key character, the sister of the protagonists, may have created a dark form of Esquie during their youth. According to this theory, she might have employed this creation to scare her sibling, and currently it could be pursuing the group in a particular region of the canvas.
This hypothesis fits existing lore, as the character has previously interfered with the realm, altering characters and orchestrating schemes. Furthermore, the return of Clea’s actress fuels the notion that her role will expand in the downloadable content.
Final Thoughts
Might these theories be overblown? Maybe the social media image is simply holiday-themed fun, and Esquie will stay his kind self in the upcoming update. But, with numerous hints suggesting a darker turn, fans are eagerly awaiting what surprises lie ahead in Expedition 33’s newest chapter.
